Yoga

OC3 is now offering physiotherapist-led yoga sessions.

WHAT IS YOGA?

“Yoga” comes from the Sanskrit “yuj”, which means “to yoke”, or link, the body and spirit. Yoga is a practice that involves linking breath with physical poses designed to target core stability, strength and flexibility; with a focus on movement quality, and mindfulness. Yoga has been scientifically proven to lower high blood pressure, reduce low back pain, and improve health-related aspects of fitness.

YOGA CLASSES

Yoga is a phenomenal rehabilitation and prevention tool. Under the supervision of a physiotherapist with a 200 hour yoga instructor’s certification, traditional yoga postures can be safely modified to accommodate each participant’s individual needs. Whether you are recovering from an injury, or striving for optimal health and wellness, yoga will surely benefit you.

Each yoga participant must undergo a 1-hour individualized functional assessment with Shelagh Haynes, registered physiotherapist and yoga instructor, prior to involvement in yoga sessions. Subsequently, you will proceed to a series of one-on-one physiotherapist-led yoga sessions tailored to fit with the results of your assessment and to meet your individual goals. From there, you will have the option of progressing to small group sessions (2-4 participants).
